BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost): Africa is set for a strong presence at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after ten national teams from the continent secured their place in football’s biggest tournament.

The teams that have qualified include Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa, Cape Verde, and DR Congo, all booking their tickets after intense qualification battles across Africa and the playoff stage.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off on 11 June 2026, and will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first-ever three-nation World Cup in history.

Morocco and Senegal lead Africa’s hopes as they continue to establish themselves as global football forces following strong performances in recent international competitions.

North African giants Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria bring experience and tactical strength, while West African sides Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire add flair and attacking power to the continent’s lineup.

South Africa will represent Southern Africa after a solid qualification campaign, while Cape Verde has made history by qualifying for their first ever World Cup.

DR Congo completes Africa’s list after fighting through the tough playoff route, showing resilience and determination to reach the global stage.

With Africa enjoying increased slots in the expanded tournament format, expectations are high that the continent could make a deeper impact than ever before.

The opening match for an African team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature South Africa playing host nation Mexico in the tournament’s opening game at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 11.
