BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The 2025 TNM Super League has recorded a remarkable surge in gate collections during its first round, raking in an impressive K1,064,184,626.00 compared to K689,298,100.00 collected during the same period in 2024.
This represents a 54.39 percent increase, marking one of the league’s strongest revenue growths in recent years.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) officials have attributed the jump to a combination of factors, including improved matchday marketing, increased fan engagement and the presence of several high-profile fixtures early in the season.
According to figures released by the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Silver Strikers, and newly promoted Ekhaya FC emerged as the biggest beneficiaries of this financial windfall, drawing the largest crowds and commanding the highest gate revenues.
Bullets and Wanderers, whose historic rivalry continues to dominate the domestic football scene, drew record-breaking attendances in their derby match, while Silver Strikers’ resurgence in form has attracted more fans in the central region.
Ekhaya FC, on the other hand, have surprised many by pulling significant crowds in their debut season, thanks to their aggressive community engagement and competitive performances on the pitch.
One of sports Analysts Ibrahim Phiri say the upward trend could continue into the second round if teams maintain their current competitive form and fan-friendly initiatives.
Phiri also urged clubs to reinvest part of their earnings into infrastructure, player welfare, and grassroots football development.
