Big Bullets are out of the 2015 CAF Champions League after a 1-1 draw with Sudan’s Al Hilal at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre earlier today.
The Bullets, whose defender Douglas Chirambo died a few hours before the game after a long illness, bowed out 5-1 on aggregate after being clobbered 4-0 in the first leg played in Khartoum.
Wearing black arm bands, the Bullets hardly subjected Al Hilal to pressure as the first half ended with little action.
Striker Jaffalie Chande had two chances to score, but he headed wide and shot weakly into the palms of goalkeeper Luis Maxim.
The game exploded to life after the break when Big Bullets snatched the lead through James Chilapondwa’s 74th minute penalty, awarded after Seyifu Masawi’s handball.
However, the lead was short-lived. It was wiped out two minutes later by Al Hilal’s super substitute Frank Boubacar’s neat finish.
Al Hilal opted for defensive and offensive discipline while relying on counter attacks.
In fact, Boubacar should had added the second goal, but he was denied by Bullets goalkeeper Vincent Gona late in the game.
