NAIROBI-(MaraviPost) – At least 30 people have died after a bus they were on veered off the road and plunged into Nithi Bridge in Tharaka Nithi County on Sunday evening.
The Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Nobert Komora confirmed the news of the tragedy in a statement on Monday, July 25, 2022.

The police report indicated that 24 passengers were confirmed to have lost their lives immediately after the accident and six more bodies were retrieved from the wreckage on Monday morning.
According to the County police commander, Ms Donatha Chali, the bodies of the dead had been moved to mortuaries in Chuka County Referral and Chogoria PCEA hospitals.
The 43-seater bus was heading to Mombasa from Meru when the driver lost control at the black spot and plunged into the river at around 6:30 pm.
The rescue and search operations had been called off Sunday night and they resumed Monday morning, KBC reported.
Those injured have since been rushed to Chogoria Mission hospital and Chuka Referral hospital for treatment and police have cautioned that the number of fatalities could rise because some survivors were seriously injured.
The accident happened barely a month after a 14-seater matatu plunged into the Nithi bridge claiming one and leaving 13 others with serious injuries.
Kenya has seen a recent increase in deadly road accidents in recent weeks, with more than 60 deaths reported in crashes recorded over the past month alone.
