DEMAND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF UGANDAN POLITICIAN "BOBI WINE"

By Burnett Munthali

Uganda’s government has denied claims that opposition leader Bobi Wine is under house arrest following the elections.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated that Wine is being protected due to his prominent status, saying he’s “not an ordinary citizen”.

The police presence and movement restrictions are reportedly for security reasons.

Early election results show President Yoweri Museveni leading by a significant margin, seeking to extend his nearly four-decade rule.

The campaign was marked by internet shutdowns, polling station issues, and allegations of repression.

Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform had claimed he was under house arrest, sparking concerns over the election’s fairness.

The outcome is expected to be announced soon.
