A 16-year-old girl has been admitted to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after her boyfriend allegedly chopped off her right hand for rejecting his marriage proposal.
Daily Monitor report indicated that the victim, a Senior Two student, was on her way to her parents’ home when the suspect armed with a machete confronted her and left left her in a pool of blood after cutting off her hand.
The victim sustained several injuries on other parts of the body and she was admitted to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
Police in Bududa District have disclosed that they arresting the suspect and later releasing him on police bond because the victim was not clear in her statement when she was asked to describe him.
The teenager’s mother, Ms Juliet Khainza, alleged that the suspect’s family compromised the police officers and she has appealed to Inspector General of Police and the head of the Anti-Corruption Unit of Sate House, Lt Col Edith Nakalema to intervene and bring the suspect to face the law.
Commenting on the matter, Mr Anthony Mutuma, the officer-in-charge of criminal investigations, said they are investigating two cases of attempted murder and defilement and once they capture the suspect who’s still at large, they will bring him to justice.
