LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Member of Parliament (MP) for Rumphi East, Kamlepo Kalua on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 asked the Ministry of Education to introduce free secondary school Education in Malawi to reach out vulnerable children.
Standing on a point of order 69, Kalua said the response was quite disappointing arguing that Malawi’s neighboring countries are offering the same service to children.

He said the August house is a policy maker, and implementing free education depends on their hands.
“If you want to alleviate poverty, make secondary school free in Malawi as most of those that attend the government schools are underprivileged,” said Kalua.
He said it is very sad that most parents pin their role on Members of Parliament due to a lack of resources.
He, therefore, condemned the response of his fellow members who politicized the motion regardless of it being very crucial in uprighting children’s education.
On her part, Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Mdooko said the ministry suspends school fees; instead, they only ask students to pay school funds.
Mdooko said what learners are paying is school funds for development, not school fees, and it’s entitled to every school.
