US Ambassador Huckabee backs Israel’s Gaza takeover plan

WASHINGTON-(MaraviPost)-US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has thrown his weight behind Israel’s plan to take over Gaza City, citing repeated failures to negotiate a ceasefire and hostage-release deal with Hamas leadership.

In an interview on the “Piers Morgan Uncensored” program, Huckabee emphasized that Israel has no other choice but to proceed with a military takeover.

Huckabee pointed out that Israel has made numerous attempts to secure a diplomatic settlement, but Hamas has shown no interest in negotiating.

“I do know firsthand that Israel has put offer after offer on the table in negotiations, trying to get some kind of diplomatic settlement,” he said. “Hamas was not interested in that.”

The US ambassador also highlighted the Arab League’s unanimous stance that Hamas should disarm, give up, and recognize its lack of future, while also releasing all hostages.

“The Arab league unanimously said it’s Hamas that ought to disarm, it’s Hamas that ought to give up and recognize that they have no future, and they need to let all the hostages go…at one time,” Huckabee stated.

However, since Israel announced its planned military operation in Gaza, Hamas has renewed its interest in negotiations.

Huckabee sees this as a tactic to prolong the conflict, questioning whether Hamas is genuinely serious about ending the conflict.

Israeli Plans for Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans to take control of all of Gaza but does not intend to govern it.

Instead, Israel aims to hand it over to Arab forces that will govern it properly. This move has drawn criticism from the UK and UN, warning of further violence and worsening humanitarian crisis.

International Reactions

The UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has urged Israel to halt the planned takeover, citing concerns over the humanitarian situation.

Huckabee responded by questioning the UK’s contribution to Gaza, noting that Israel has already sent 2 million tons of aid into Gaza. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has also demanded that Israel suspend its plan for a complete military takeover, citing international law.

As the situation unfolds, one thing is clear: the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to draw international attention and concern.

With the US backing Israel’s plan, while the UK and UN raise concerns, the path forward remains uncertain.
