Chikwawa, March 5: United States of America Ambassador to Malawi, Virginia Palmer on Monday pledged continued support of her government to Malawi.
Palmer made the remarks as she visited some development activities funded by the USA Government in Chikwawa.
“I presented letters of credence to President Peter Muntharika on Friday and this is my first visit outside Lilongwe, and I decided to see for myself development projects being funded by the USA government,” explained Palmer.
Palmer visited St Mathews Primary School where she appreciated the school feeding program and was updated on the status of the program.
In the school feeding program, Palmer was impressed that the program had contributed greatly to improving education status of Malawi.
“I am aware that education is very important to the country hence my government will continue with support towards this sector,” said Palmer.
Palmer then visited Jombo Primary school where she inspected the distribution of relief items to households that were affected by floods.
She sympathized with the affected families and said she was impressed with the work that the district council had done in ensuring that lives of people affected by floods we looked after.
“The USA government channelled assistance amounting to $2.5million to Malawi and am glad the assistance has reached beneficiaries,” she said.
In an interview, with the District Commissioner for Chikwawa Alex Mdooko was grateful for the assistance that the USA government had offered to the affected families.
Mdooko said measures were being put in place to ensure that people affected y floods rebuild their lives once they return to their respective homes.
