USA’ Indianapolis city gunman kills eight before turning the gun on himself

Gunman kills eight in US city of Indianapolis

NEW YORK-(MaraviPost)-At least eight people were killed in random shooting after a gunman opened fire at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis on Thursday night before killing himself.

Indianapolis police spokesperson Genae Cook confirmed the news in a statement.

According to Cook, Police arrived at the scene of the incident around 11:00 p.m. after responding to shootings. She added that the victims were all found at a Fedex facility near the international airport and several others had been taken to the hospital after sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Cook also said authorities believe there was no longer an immediate threat to public safety.

Investigations from IMPD and Indiana State Police are ongoing to identity the shooter and seek the motive behind the shootings, AFP reported.

U.S. Rep. André Carson, D-Indiana, whose district includes Indianapolis expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

Carson disclosed on twitter that he’s currently communicating with local authorities to get all details of the attack and his office is ready to help everyone affected in any way possible.

There have been several mass shootings in the U.S. in recent weeks, including an April 8 shooting at a cabinet company facility in Bryan, Texas, that left one person dead and five others wounded.

Last month, four people, including a child, were shot dead in an office building in southern California.

On March 22, 10 people were killed in a shooting at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado.

Nearly 40,000 people in the United States die each year from guns, more than half of those being suicides.

The issue of gun regulation in the United States is politically fraught but recently President Joe Biden announced six executive measures to halt the gun violence crisis.
