BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-On Wednesday this week the Secretary General of UTM Patricia Kaliati held meetings with the party’s representatives from Phalombe and Mulanje district s aiming at strengthening the party structures and keeping the party in greater preparation for its forwardness.
When asked how they feel as a party upon reports that its former publicity secretary Aaron Chimbanga has rejoined the DPP, Kaliati said that the party is not surprised and even worried because UTM believes in democracy and where everyone is free to stay or leave.
“We are in democracy and UTM is the only party that listens to the will of people. We at UTM believe that we cannot progress as a party and Malawians if the will of people is blocked . In fact Chimbanga’s defection only shows that he was never meant to be in UTM but was a good visitor whose stay is over and is free to go.
“A visitor doesn’t stay long and it is good not to get mad at the vistor who finally bids a farewell, its normal. Malawians who believe in UTM are too many, they are real owners of UTM and because they know who they are and what they want for this country, they are still with UTM,” Said Kaliati.
Speaking on the future of UTM, Kaliati said that the party operations are still on and they never stopped for a moment, pointing it as the other reason why she and other UTM members are still holding meetings.
She emphasized that UTM will continue holding hands with Malawians until they save the country from collapsing under the leadership of Dr Saulosi Chilima who is also the party’s president .
Also at the meeting were district governor s of the two district including Thawani Gwembere who stressed that UTM is growing bigger and they are not moved despite to what he called as DPP’s plans to lobby UTM members into joining them.
‘’ We are with UTM and the rumors that some of us have joined DPP are untrue. We chose UTM when DPP was ruling and there is no way we can go back. We know the problems of our people in villages and we believe that only UTM can deliver ‘’ added Mr. Gwembere.
The meeting was also attended by the UTM’s director of women for the south Loyce Mponda among other senior leaders and they expect to hold meetings of same kind in all regions of the country
