LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-One of the senior officials in the United Transformation Movement (UTM), Patricia Kaliati, has expressed her satisfaction with the work being done by Vice President Michael Usi in exposing corruption within government.
Speaking at a Chigwirizano event in Lilongwe, Kaliati said that the government’s failure to drive development and address economic challenges has created an environment ripe for the revelations that Usi continues to make.
She noted that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) initially viewed the selection of Michael Usi as the deputy to the party leader as a potential threat to UTM.
However, Kaliati explained, it is now clear that Usi’s actions are actually revealing malpractice that undermines their own party.
She stated, “At first, they thought that by selecting Michael Usi as deputy, they were weakening UTM. Today, he is exposing their own party’s shortcomings.”
Kaliati urged Vice President Usi to continue his work boldly, to unmask corruption, and not to fear or weaken in the face of political pressures.
She added that those who seek UTM’s support will now face the consequences of their actions, as Usi’s revelations shed light on mismanagement.
Kaliati also called on Malawians to open their ears and listen to the evidence of how the government is destroying the country’s economy.
She warned that while many citizens remain silent, it is crucial to acknowledge the extent of the damage caused by poor governance.
“Throughout this year we have heard much, and we can no longer stay silent. If we speak out, they will see we are addressing corruption,” she said.
Concluding Analysis
Patricia Kaliati’s remarks underscore a growing narrative in Malawian politics where opposition figures are recognized for holding government accountable.
Her endorsement of VP Michael Usi highlights the role of whistleblowers and deputy leaders in promoting transparency, especially in the face of systemic economic mismanagement.
The call for Malawians to pay attention reflects a broader push for civic awareness and citizen engagement to demand better governance and prevent further economic decline.
