LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Vice President Jane Ansah’s UK trip is on with the budget of MK294 million for six individuals.
The Treasury has therefore released MK250 million that Ansah is expected to leave for the United Kingdom on Friday, December 26, 2025.
But for the consolidated funds is MK168 million.
This has come to the limelight of civil society grouping under the banner Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) after engaged the Ansah’s office.
Addressing the news conference on Wednesday, December 24, HRCC Chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba said the grouping is satisfied with the information provided on Ansah’s UK trip.
“The Veep office confirmed that the trip of Ansah is on. She is therefore embarking on this private trip with the reason to undertake a major relocation and to coordinate the process of removal and repatriation of her personal items from Nottingham to Malawi.
“The VP will still be discharging her official duties and other functions related to her mandate while on this private trip. Accordingly, the VP will have to spend time paying attention to her husband who is in the UK and has a medical condition,” observes HRCC.
The grouping demands, “We damage accountability on the allegations of leakages from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as from Malawi’s diplomatic mission in the UK.
“We observe with concern the rise in peddling of falsehoods and deliberate efforts to engage international media channels for wrong reasons of trying to discredit the office of the VP”.
The grouping urges further, “We call for Sanity and we demand a stop to the spreading of the falsehood.
“We observe that the VP has the constitutional rights just like any other persons and deserves the respect that any public office requires.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Shadrick Namalomba has also issued statement backing the Veep Ansah’s UK trip budget and entourage.
