BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)–Mighty Wanderers have given their new sponsor, Be Forward, a special welcome by beating old age rivals Big Bullets through post match penalties at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday to lift Mayors Charity Shield.
Fresh from TNM Super League championiship celebrations, Bullets were a marvel to watch from the word go but Wanderers, who have just clinched sponsorship deal with the Japanese Car Exporter Company, contained the pressure.
Both teams exchanged excellent passes in the first half but it was Bullets who looked more aggressive in front. Jimmy Zakazaka, Mussa Manyenje and Jaffalie Chande gave the Wanderers’ defenders tough time and goalie Richard Chipuwa was a busy man in the field of play.
Come second half, Bullets dictated the proceedings. They came wave after wave in Wanderers half, thanks to Francis Mlimbika, Bongani Kayipa and Enock Likoswe who managed to tame well the Bullets’ strikers.
Bullets’ chance to get a goal in the injury time was thwarted by Chipuwa who challenged Fischer Kondowe in a tete-a-tete situation, leaving the Palestinians in disbelief.
After a deadlock in the regulation time, the referee had no option but to call for penalties.
Wanderers scored all the six spot kicks but Bullets’ Frazer Menyani saw his spot kick being saved by Chipuwa, sending the Nomads’ fans into wild celebration.
Wanderers went away with K1 million for emerging champions while Bullets pocketed K500, 000.
The main aim of the Shield was to create awareness on keep Blantyre clean and green campaign championed by Mayor Noel Chalamanda.
