Youths to construct houses for Albinos in Karonga

In an effort to provide a conducive environment to people living with albinism in Malawi, the Wasambo Youths Network, one of the youths’ organizations in the southern part of Karonga has revealed its plan of rehabilitating houses of albinos in their area.

The group has organized different kind of activities that will help to raise money for the rehabilitation.
Speaking to Maravipost after the big walk, the director for the organization Austin Zangazanga said they are expected to raise about K1.5 million for the development.
“As youths, we are really concerned with the environment our friends of albinos are living in. Their own country has now turned into a fierce place to stay,” worried Zangazanga.
“We know that government as well as Non Governmental Organizations is doing their better to eliminate the problems and what we are doing is just to complement,” he said.
Zangazanga said that the youths decide to rehabilitate albino houses after noticing that most of them are worn out.
“You know that this issue of albino abduction always occurs at the houses of the victims especially because their houses are prone for the perpetrators. And we believe that from our decision this will be a history as albino houses in our area will be safe,” said Zangazanga.
According to him, the area has 10 houses of albinos and that the rehabilitation will be done soon. Recently, the Malawi Police Services organized an awareness campaign in the district after observing that the district can be part of the root used by the albino killers and abductors. Currently, only two such kinds of cases have been occurred in the Karonga with one of the culprits saving a life jail term after convicted by the Mzuzu high court.
