LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Ministry of Water and Sanitation embarks on a leading role in the disaster response in the area of Water, Hygiene and Sanitation.
Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia said this in Lilongwe on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
Mia said beyond the leading role the ministry is doing technical assessments to the damaged water infrastructure to have repaired as soon as possible considering the linkages between water, hygiene and sanitation.

The minister said the ministry has made available water bowsers in Chikwawa and Nsanje Camps and disseminating hygiene and sanitation messages to the people in the camps.
She said the ministry is part of the response team responding to the disaster, cyclone through the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Cluster under the Department of Disaster Management and Response.
“The Ministry Chairs the WASH Cluster and coordinates the response by all partners during current cyclone disasters and we have coordinated all the response in form of WASH supplies, safe water provision, latrines in the camps working with WASH partners in the sector,” said Mia.
Ministry of water is working with partners led by UNICEF in collaboration with USAID, WESNET,Water Aid,United Purpose,Water for people ,Water Mission ,Malawi Red cross ,Catholic relief services and World Without Hunger.
