Where is Saulos Chilima amid Cyclone Freddy whip?

By Deus Chikalaza

As the nation is busy rescuing trapped communities in flood caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy in the southern region’s districts, Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima is no where to be seen or heard?

The nation only heard his wife Mary Chilima making donations to the Cyclone survivors this week.

When President Lazarus Chakwera left Malawi for Qatar’s UN Least developing nation summit, Chilima was entrusted with power.

Chilima only overseared a few functions in Chakwera’s absence.

When Cyclone Freddy hit Southern region’s districts on Friday, March 10 through that weekend, the nation expected Chilima lead cabinet ministers to affected areas in Chakwera absence.

Where is Saulos Chilima?

But Chilima was no where to be seen or heard until Chakwera came late on Tuesday, March 14 when the Cyclone was already terrorised lives, properties leaving thousands of people homeless.

Despite general public anger against Chakwera’s late coming home, Chilima chose to be quite not even a word.

This is despite every prominent figures going flat out on the ground with relief items, Chilima remains quite.

We know Chilima is being charged on corruption that Chakwera stripped him some delegated duties, but this could not stop him being physical with the nation in times of need.

Chilima is playing a dangerous game politically as even his UTM officials are no where to be seen in the ground.

Chilima actions displaying now just show how selfish he is.

Without looking into his political death bird, Chilima could be with Chakwera or chose to be alone helping cyclone survivors.

This is not witch hunting on Chilima but questioning his wisdom in time of need.

Chilima must shallow his pride, ego and be with the people for comfort.

Malawi entrusted him with power alongside Chakwera to govern Malawi.

If Chilima is not comfortable with the south, he can go to Karonga where dry spell has also hit hard the district.

Thus is the time Chilima must show that he cares about Malawians more than his political hungry to become Malawi President in the near future.

Currently, Cyclone Freddy has killed 438 people displacing 79,602 households in the southern region’s districts.

Let these figures push him to do something for the nation than living in hibernation in comfort of his house in Area 43.
