Who is opposition DPP fooling? Peter Mutharika missing on MEC nominations papers list

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika is missing on Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) nomination papers list contray to the Party media stunt that its leader collected the forms.

The party even shared FDH bank deposit receipt with the name of Mutharika paying the nomination fee of MK10 million.

But MEC) says only Reverend Hardwick Kaliya collected presidential nomination papers over the weekend, bringing the total number of presidential hopefuls who have collected papers to eight.

This update contradicts reports suggesting that DPP leader Mutharika has also collected his nomination papers.

As of now, Mutharika’s name does not appear on MEC’s official list.

According to the Commission, those who have collected presidential nomination papers so far include Milward Tobias, Adil James Chilungo, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party, Kondwani Nankhumwa of the People’s Development Party, Akwame Bandawe of the Anyamata, Atsikana, Azimayi (AAA), Joyce Banda of the People’s Party, Atupele Austin Muluzi of the United Democratic Front, and Reverend Hardwick Kaliya as an independent candidate.

“Kindly be advised that only one nomination paper has been collected over the weekend by Reverend Hardwick Kaliya who intends to contest on an independent ticket.

“This brings to eight (8) the total number of nomination papers collected so far on presidential election and the list is as follows:

  1. Milward Tobias: independent
  2. Adil James Chilungo: Independent
  3. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera: Malawi Congress Party
  4. Kondwani Nankhumwa: Peoples Development Party
  5. Akwame Bandawe: Anyamata, Atsikana, Azimayi (AAA)
  6. Joyce Banda: People’s Party (PP)
  7. Atupele Austin Muluzi: United Democratic Front (UDF)
  8. Reverend Hardwick Kaliya: independent”, reads the MEC statement in part.

MEC statement appeals, “All political parties, aspiring candidates and all electoral stakeholders are advised that payment of nomination fees and collection of nomination papers continues.

“The last day for collecting nomination papers is the last day of submission of the same to MEC, thus 22 June for Local Government and 5 July for Parliamentary and Presidential Elections. All aspirants are encouraged to collect nomination papers on time to avoid last minute inconveniences”
