BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A new era for Malawian netball has begun with the launch of the FDH Bank MK1.2 Billion Premier Netball League at Blantyre Sports Arena, on Saturday.
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President Vitumbiko Gubuduza described the league as a milestone that will not only enhance the standard of play but also strengthen Malawi’s dominance in regional and international competitions.
FDH Bank’s Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, Ronald Chimchere, emphasized that the investment goes beyond sponsorship, as the league aims to discover hidden talent and boost the sports economy in the country.
Malawi National Council of Sports Director of Sports and Recreation Development, Ivy Chinangwa, hailed the initiative as a game changer, saying it will provide athletes with consistent competition, which is key for the sport’s sustainability.
The league, which will run until early next year, features 264 fixtures and each team will play 22 games for entire league.
It officially opened with an entertaining clash where Vanessa Sisters outclassed Pacers 42–31, while in an exhibition match, Netball Legends triumphed 18–11 over FDH Bank’s own netball team.
