Nsanje, December 23: NGO World Vision Malawi has finally provided assistance to people who were hit by hailstorm in Nsanje district.
The organization has donated assorted items including maize and beans worth 12 Million Kwacha to 1, 000 households in the area of Chief Mlolo.
World Vision Malawi Humanitarian Emergency Affairs Manager Dingiswayo Jere said the donation is aimed at alleviating the suffering of the people whose houses destroyed by the November 11 hailstorms.
“We thought of coming to the rescue after the Nsanje Council and Member of Parliament for the area, Nsanje North, approached us for a helping hand. As a humanitarian organization, we felt duty bound to provide the assistance to the affected families,” explained Jere.
Jere said the support which includes maize, beans, tents; clothes just to mention a few will help the affected families in uplifting their lives.
Member of Parliament for Nsanje North, Esther Mcheka Chilenje Nkhoma described the support as timely.
She said the hailstorm left some people homeless besides losing their property thus the assistance will help them recover from the disaster effects.
“I am very grateful to World Vision Malawi for the support rendered to the hundreds of people in my area. Let me also call upon other stakeholders to do the same as the support is not enough considering the damage they suffered,” Chilenje Nkhoma urged.
Apart from destroying houses, the hailstorms also affected schools such as Sankhulani Primary, Chigwamafumu Primary, Osiyana Primary and Thangadzi Primary.
