BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has begun disbursing grants to youth innovators under the MK2 billion National Youth Innovation Fund.
The fund, launched by President Lazarus Chakwera, aims to promote innovations and economic development in Malawi.
During a cheque presentation ceremony for innovators from Mchinji, NYCOM Executive Director Rex Chapota revealed that 85 youth-led innovations will be supported in the first phase.
The focus is on building local industries and enabling innovators to sell their products in shops and export them to other countries.
One of the beneficiaries, Elizabeth Teleka, received MK11.9 million to boost production of liquid fertilizer from animal waste and biogas.
This initiative aims to provide communities with affordable fertilizer and energy for cooking.
Another recipient, Kuwala Eco Energy Initiative Limited, a group of innovators, was supported with K12.95 million.
The grant will help the company secure more equipment to support farmers with seed capital and solar-powered irrigation systems, promoting irrigation farming in the region.
The NYCOM initiative seeks to empower young Malawians to drive economic growth and development through innovation.
By providing financial support, NYCOM is enabling these innovators to turn their ideas into reality and contribute to the country’s economic progress.
