LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced on his Facebook page that he has formally submitted nomination papers for re-election alongside his running mate, Republican Vice President Mutale W.K. Nalumango.
The submission took place on Friday afternoon as the pair seek a second term in the election scheduled for August 13.
Hichilema said the decision to seek re-election is guided by the understanding that leadership is a call to service, sacrifice, and duty to country.
He recalled that a few years ago, Zambia faced division, economic hardship, and widespread uncertainty that left many citizens without hope.
Yet through resilience, unity, and what he described as God’s grace, he said, Zambia is rising again.
The president pointed to the return of peace, order, and public confidence, alongside growth in jobs, investment, and opportunity.
He highlighted that free education and local development initiatives are now changing lives in communities across the country.
But Hichilema stressed that progress alone is not enough and that Zambia must protect the values that define its national identity.
He described peace as the country’s greatest inheritance and said Zambia has endured because its people chose unity over hatred, dialogue over violence, and country over self.
This legacy, he warned, must never be sacrificed to division, tribalism, corruption, or political bickering.
Hichilema urged that the upcoming election should not divide the nation but instead strengthen its democracy and unite its people.
He called on citizens to reject violence, arrogance, and toxic politics in favor of leadership rooted in integrity, compassion, service, and results.
Addressing every citizen directly, he said Zambia belongs to all of its people.
He pledged that together, Zambians will keep building a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous nation where every person lives with dignity, hope, and opportunity.
Hichilema closed by invoking the national motto, calling on the country to move forward together as One Zambia, One Nation, One People.
He ended his message with a prayer for God’s blessing on the people and on the Republic of Zambia.
