LUSUKA-(MaraviPost)-Zambia’s Zesco Ndola Girls have secured a place in the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League Southern Region qualifiers after a hard fought 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
The Ndola based side showed great resilience and tactical discipline against the highly rated Sundowns, who came into the match as defending champions of the Southern Africa zone.
Zesco took the lead early in the first half through a well taken strike, before Sundowns equalized just before the break.
However, Zesco’s determination paid off when they scored the decisive goal midway through the second half to seal their place in the final.
The final will determine which team represents the COSAFA region at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, scheduled for later this year.
Gaborone United Ladies of Botswana have advanced to the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers after defeating Mozambique’s Costa do Sol 3-1 in the other semifinal
Zesco and Gaborone will battle it out in the final this coming Sunday.
