HARARE-(MaraviPost)-Zimbabwe’s Vice President Kembo Mohadi has resigned following reports of sex scandals between him and several married women and girls.
The Ministry of Information revealed the news on twitter page citing his resignation letter that he wrote to the president.
According to the contents of the issued letter, Mohadi apologized to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, his Cabinet and all Zimbabweans for his alleged infidelity.
A report by news24 revealed that a number of audio recordings of phone conversations allegedly of Mohadi soliciting sex from several women, including a subordinate in his office have been making rounds throughout social media for the past month.
Despite the evidence against him, Mohadi has continued denying the accusations saying it was part of a political plot against him.
He has disclosed that he will seek legal recourse against the accusations.
Mohadi was appointed vice president three years ago and along with Constantino Chiwenga, he was a deputy to President Emmerson Mnangagwa since 2018 but without a political power base, he was not seen as a potential successor to the president.
His wife of 30 years Tambudzani Mohadi, divorced him claiming that she was involved in some adulterous affairs before he lived with a young woman, Juliet Mutavhatsindi, who allegedly also left him over his alleged infidelity.
According to the Zimbabwe Constitution, a vice president “may resign his or her office by written notice to the president, who must give public notice of the resignation as soon as it is possible to do so and in any event within twenty-four hours.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is yet to respond to his resignation letter and announce possible course of action.
