ZOMBA-(MaraviPost)—The Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb) informs all candidates currently sitting for this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exams that the exams will proceed on Thursday, July 7 despite Eid-ul-Fitr public holiday. This follows Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development announcement that Thursday, July 7, 2016, is a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr marking the end of the Islamic Holy month of Ramadhan.

This means that the nation will have back to back holidays from Wednesday, to Thursday as tomorrow, July 6; the country celebrates Independence Day.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, July 5 and made available to The Maravi Post, Maneb said that the examinations will be conducted on Thursday, despite being the public holiday.

“Maneb would like to inform candidates, examination administrators and the general public that administration of the 2016 MSCE exams will continue during the Thursday public holiday.

“As indicated on the timetable circulated in January this year, candidates have a break on Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 6 and examination resumes on Thursday, July 7, 2016.

“All candidates and examination administrators are therefore reminded to unfailingly observe the timetable,” reads Maneb statement issued by Simeon Maganga, the board’s Public Relations Officer.

During the month of Ramadhan, Muslims across the world observe a strict fasting and participate in pious activities such as charitable giving and peace-making as a spiritual renewal with their God (Allah).

The annual observation of the Ramadhan lasts for between 29 and 30 days based on the sighting of the crescent moon which is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam.
