LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Standard Bank Malawi has officially launched the 2025 edition of the Be More Race, a premier athletics event in the country, under the theme “Run in Blue.”
The launch ceremony took place at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, bringing together stakeholders from the sports, corporate, and wellness sectors.
The event underscores the Bank’s continued commitment to promoting health, community spirit, and national development.
Now in its seventh edition since its inception in 2017, the Be More Race has become a prominent fixture on Malawi’s sports calendar.
This year’s race is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, starting from 6:00 AM at the Bingu National Stadium.
Participants will have the option to compete in the 21km competitive race, the 10km run, or the 5km family run.
The event will also feature free aerobics sessions and vibrant entertainment, including musical performances and children’s play areas.
Phillip Madinga, Chief Executive of Standard Bank, highlighted the race’s broader mission beyond athleticism.
“Our purpose is driving Malawi’s growth, and the Be More Race exemplifies how unity, health, and determination come together to drive real progress,” Madinga stated.
He announced that all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Athletics Malawi to support the training and equipping of the country’s professional athletes.
“We want to put Malawian athletes on the global map,” he added.
Echoeing the same, Tamanda Ng’ombe, Head of Brand and Marketing, revealed new additions to the event, including the Be More Marketplace – a curated wellness space showcasing fitness communities and healthy living brands.
“Be More Race is a lifestyle. It is about creating lasting impact through community, wellness, and inspiration,” she said.
“Participants will receive a customized Be More Race jersey and access to all race-day activities.
We are excited to have found a partner who will take athletics in Malawi to the next level.
In his remarks, Kondwani Chamwala, President of Athletics Malawi says, “This initiative is more than just running we are creating a community and a culture that benefits both our bodies and our society at large.
“I urge my fellow athletes, social runners and walkers to buy tickets in large numbers so that this race can make a real impact and promote health and athletics across Malawi”.
