LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Standard Bank Plc has emphasized the need to implement programs earmarked to empower girls and help them overcome challenges that deter their progress in society.

Standard Bank’s Head of Brand and Marketing, Tamanda Ng’ombe is speaking in Lilongwe during the Bring a Girl Child to Workplace to commemorate this year’s International Day of a Girl Child.

“This initiative aims to inspire young girls to envision and pursue their dreams while fostering skills that will lead them into successful futures.

“By providing resources, mentorship, and support, we aim to inspire the next generation of female leaders who will shape our world,” she says.

This year’s IDGC is being celebrated under the theme “Girls’ vision for the Future”.

To commemorate the events, Standard Bank invited girls to some of its branches to inspire them to consider exciting yet challenging banking careers.

N’gombe says through this year’s initiative, Standard Bank aims to equip girls with the knowledge they need to manage their finances confidently and pursue their career goals.

“Girls are courageous and therefore they need actions to realize a vision of a world in which all girls are protected, respected, and empowered.

At Standard Bank, we believe that girls are a great hope for the future due to their resilience and determination in our societies. Hence, we have initiatives that aim to empower and explore their potential,” she said.

The Head of Marketing added that the bank is committed to empowering girls to not only envision their futures but also to take concrete steps toward making those visions a reality.

“As a bank, we understand that empowering girls today is essential for building a brighter tomorrow. As such, we take a keen interest in issues that make them flourish and contribute towards achieving their goals,” she notes.

The Head of Brand and Marketing shared a story of Tadala Taulo, a fourth-year student studying bachelor’s in economics at University of Malawi.

Tadala speaks of how her visit to Standard Bank for International Day of the Girl Child in 2019 shaped her decision to study economics.

“My experience greatly impacted by career aspirations as I understood the potential of the girl child, taking inspiration from successful women in leadership. This lit an ambition in me to make a meaningful impact in the economics,” said Ms. Taulo.

Ng’ombe added that ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future’, resonates deeply with the bank’s commitment to fostering opportunities for girls to thrive in the dynamic world and aligns with the Bank’s purpose: Malawi is our home, we drive her growth.

This year, Standard Bank accommodated girls in the following branches Karonga, Mzimba, Lilongwe main, Balaka, Mwanza, Blantyre, and Luchenza.
