LILONGWE-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera has appealed authorities to exercise transparency and accountability during relief maize distribution and National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans disbursement.

The President said this on Monday in Dedza when he conducted a whistle-stop tour.

In the district, President Chakwera visited several areas including Magomero, Njonja, Lobi and Matenje.

Addressing the gathering, Chakwera emphasised the need for duty-bearers to exercise transparency and accountability when discharging their duties.

He acknowledged the food crisis in many parts of the country, attributing it to climate change.

However, the President assured the people that his government is aware of the challenges and has directed the Ministry of Finance, along with other government agencies, to work together and ensure timely support for those in need.

Chakwera further assured the people that the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) will assist those facing food shortages.

“The government will continue to distribute maize in several places including ADMARC so that all people should be able to buy. We will also make sure that youths have access to NEEF loans without collateral for business purposes,” explains President Chakwera.
