…….As Arsenal fans chanted to mock Manchester City as well as Erling Haaland during 5-1 thrashing
LONDON-(MaraviPost)-Arsenal were in a vengeful mood as they demolished Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
After Erling Haaland’s infamous jibe with Mikel Arteta where he told the Arsenal boss to “stay humble” after the 2-2 draw between both sides at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners’ players took revenge and how.
Goals from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri cancelled Haaland’s equaliser out as Manchester City suffered their 11th defeat of the season.
In the reverse fixture, it seemed like there was a rivalry brewing between both sides as City’s number nine threw the ball at Gabriel Magalhaes’ head, the players got into several scuffles and the tensions were high from minute one.
Arsenal fans chant “Are you Tottenham in disguise?” at Man City and Erling Haaland
The home supporters were seemingly up for the game, with the atmosphere in North London being primed for the players to go out and put in a statement display.
The hosts certainly did as Pep Guardiola’s side had no answers for them — with Manuel Akanji and Phil Foden making individual errors to gift Odegaard and Partey respectively a goal each — reflecting that they might have been feeling the heat.
During Sky Sports’ live coverage of the game, Arsenal fans were heard taking a dig at Tottenham Hotspur as they mocked Manchester City and Haaland.
“Chants of ‘stay humble’ from the Arsenal crowd towards Erling Haaland. An expletive in there too. There’s also ‘are you Tottenham in disguise?’ from the home fans.”
Mikel Arteta would be proud of how his players performed.
With Liverpool winning 2-0 against AFC Bournemouth, it is clear to see that Arne Slot’s side are not willing to give up their stranglehold in the title race at the summit of the league table.
But by beating Manchester City in emphatic fashion, Arsenal became the first time since Leicester City in 2020 (5-2 win against City) to score five goals against the Sky Blues.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that such a dominant display is a sign of them potentially winning either the league or the Champions League this season.
