In a shocking turn of events, President Lazarus Chakwera has withdrawn his earlier statement that he would accept defeat if he loses the upcoming election in September.

Sources close to the presidency have revealed that Chakwera’s reversal comes after intense pressure from senior members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), who are determined to ensure the party remains in power regardless of the election outcome.

According to insiders, a meeting was convened by top MCP officials to devise a strategy that would guarantee the party’s continued grip on power.

It was during this meeting that the true intentions behind the appointment of Anabel Mtalimanja as chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) were revealed.

Despite her qualifications for the position, Mtalimanja’s appointment was allegedly motivated by the MCP’s desire to have a loyalist at the helm of the electoral body, ensuring that the party’s interests are protected.

Mtalimanja has been under fire from various quarters, with many calling for her resignation over allegations of bias and incompetence.

However, she has resisted these calls, and it now appears that her loyalty to the MCP will be rewarded if the party’s plans to remain in power succeed.

Sources indicate that Mtalimanja is unaware of the token of appreciation awaiting her, should the MCP’s scheme bear fruit.

Meanwhile, concerns are mounting over the integrity of the electoral process, with reports of anomalies in the voter roll.

Many individuals have discovered that their names are missing from the register, sparking fears of widespread disenfranchisement.

The MEC has yet to provide a satisfactory explanation for these discrepancies, fueling speculation about the commission’s ability to conduct a free and fair election.

As the country inches closer to the polls, the electoral landscape is becoming increasingly murky, leaving many to wonder if the outcome will truly reflect the will of the people.
