The Malawi Government, in collaboration with Child Rights Organisation and other key stakeholders, has launched the National Children’s Manifesto, a bold and powerful document aimed at amplifying the voices of Malawi’s children.

Deputy Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Halima Daudi, emphasized that the Manifesto ensures children’s needs, rights, and aspirations are not only heard but acted upon.

During the launch, Daudi called upon stakeholders and policymakers to prioritize children’s issues in their commitment.

The initiative will focus on critical areas such as child protection, quality education, health, and nutrition, all of which were informed by contributions from children themselves.

Daudi urged all political parties and leaders contesting in the upcoming elections to support the initiative, envisioning a future where every child in Malawi can thrive in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment.

World Vision Director of Operations, Charles Chimombo, highlighted that the initiative aims to challenge the government and other stakeholders to take heed of children’s calls.

According to Chimombo, the Manifesto will ensure children are protected from abuse and participate in climate-smart interventions to shape their future.

The launch of the National Children’s Manifesto marks a significant milestone in Malawi’s efforts to promote child welfare and rights.

As Daudi previously emphasized during International Women’s Day celebrations, empowerment is not just a goal but a necessity, particularly for women and girls.

This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to improving early childhood development, as seen in its efforts to enhance community-based childcare centers and promote social cash transfer programs.

The Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare has been working tirelessly to address child-related issues, including ending child marriage, which remains a significant challenge in Malawi.

With 42% of girls married before the age of 18, the government is implementing campaigns and guidelines to combat this issue.

The National Children’s Manifesto is a crucial step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for Malawi’s children.

By prioritizing children’s needs and rights, the government and stakeholders can work together to build a brighter future for the country’s next generation.

As the country heads towards elections, the commitment of political leaders to this initiative will be pivotal in shaping the future of Malawi’s children.
