SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-Ministry of Health and Population has admitted that HIV/AIDS is still on the rise; particularly among the youths, despite efforts to combat the pandemic.
Speaking on Sunday in Salima during the HIV/AIDS Day commemorations, Chief of health services in the Ministry, Dr Charles Mwansambo, said Malawi is currently registering 38 thousand new cases of HIV infections half of which being the youths. And 104 people are infected every day, a number which is on a higher side.
Mwansambo further said although the status quo is like that, government and other players are still fighting hard to turn it round and achieve the 2030 goal.
He was also quick to state that one other remedy to address the situation is by sending girls to school so that they can become rational decision makers in the future.
US Deputy Chief of Mission, Jerome Whiskey commended the government for the efforts it is making to combat the virus and he pledged commitment to helping the same.
Every year, HIV/AIDS Day is commemorated on 1st December. This year’s day is celebrated under the theme: Let’s End HIV/AIDS by 2030.
In Malawi, the virus was first discovered in 1985.
