LILONGWE, (MaraviPost): The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Honourable Bright Msaka SC, has described the private sector as a key partner to government in community development.

Honourable Msaka made the remarks mid this week when he received a donation of assorted items from the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) for the children’s ward at Machinga District Hospital.

The minister, who is also Member of Parliament for Machinga Likwenu Constituency and Vice President for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in the eastern region, commended the bureau for the generous donation to the hospital.

“This speaks positively about the partnership that exists between mainstream govt and the private sector, or the parastatals organizations. Institutions like the Malawi Bureau of Standards operate like a private entity although they are government owned, but they have a corporate responsibility to assist where government needs support, ” Msaka said.

MBS Director General Symon Mandala said the Organisation has a budget under social corporate responsibility, which the bureau utilizes to support communities every year.

The donation made to the hospital, valued at about two and half million Kwacha, included sugar, maize flour, soap and various other assorted items.
