20 people escape death in Lake Malawi boat accident
Twenty people have on Tuesday escaped death after a boat they were travelling in from Likoma Island to Mozambique capsized.
According to reports, the accident happened when the boat hit a rock underneath the water soon after departure from Bamba Port off the island to Mozambique; and got damaged, a situation which allowed water to fill it up.
The crew was a combination of Malawians and Mozambicans who were onboard together with their various cargoes which have since been lost.
Apparently, no life has been lost as the captain of the boat and well wishers managed to save those onboard.
According to Police in Likoma, these people were using unchartered route as the Government of Mozambique closed down its borders with Malawi due the global pandemic of Covid-19.
