LONDON-(MaraviPost)-Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has officially been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police in the UK has confirmed.
The charges are linked to three separate women and relate to alleged incidents that took place between October 2021 and July 2022.
The Ghanaian international, who recently left Arsenal following the expiry of his contract Breaking news: Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The player is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August, 2025.
The allegations including two counts of rape involving a woman in October 2021, three counts of rape involving a different woman in December 2021 and
one count of sexual assault involving a third woman in July 2022.
Partey, 31, was arrested back in 2022 in connection with the investigations but was not charged at the time.
He continued to play for Arsenal throughout the 2022–2024 seasons.
The news has sparked major public debate with many fans and activists questioning why he remained active in top-flight football while under investigation.
Some quarters of the society have raised concerns about the timing of the charges, which came shortly after his exit from Arsenal.
As of now, Partey denies all charges and maintains his innocence.
A trial is likely to follow next year, where more evidence and testimonies will be presented.
