
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)–Atupele Muluzi, who is President Peter Mutharika’s running mate in the fresh presidential election, stormed the Lower Shire on Thursday and Friday in a bid to gunner support for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance.
Speaking at Bangula Trading Center in Nsanje Lalanje Constituency where DPP and UDF supporters came in large numbers, Muluzi told the multitude to choose sustainable development and vote for Mutharika who is leading the DPP-UDF Alliance.
Muluzi also promised that in his capacity as the Minister of Energy he will facilitate the smooth implementation of the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme in Nsanje.
Parliamentarian Euriter Mtiza, who accompanied the young Muluzi, said in 2019 people of her area voted for President Mutharika and come 2nd July they will vote for him again.
Taking his turn, Salim Bagus who is slowly becoming the political giant in the lower Shire, said “people of the lower shire were heavily persecuted during the one party era so they must jealously guard their vote by voting for the DPP-UDF Alliance.”
In the run up to 2019 elections, Bagus ditched MCP and joined the DPP few months before the election.
Among others in the Lower Shire, President Mutharika has championed developments such as the Majestic Chapananga bridge, The Shire Valley Transformation Programme,the Thabwa-Fatima road, the Nsanje Marka road, Ngabu Community Technical College, the upgrading of Chapananga road to tarmac status, the construction of Chikwawa Teachers Training College, Construction of the new modern Nsanje and Tengani Markets, and the construction of Telecentres in almost all constituencies.
