LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Bishop Andrew Dube of Dream Centre in Blantyre is now the new president of the Malawi Assemblies of God church.
The Bishop Dube was elected at the church’s general assembly held at the church’s headquarters in Lilongwe on Friday, August 21, 2020.
The elective general assembly also elected new faces in other positions but others maintained their positions.
These elections follows the church’s Constitution which stipulates 4 years as the term of office for its leaders.
Bishop Andrew Dube who was the deputy president of the church takes over the highest position from Rev. Dr. Edward Chitsonga who is the outgoing president who succeeded Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in 2013.
This is a position of interest because the current president of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, also held the same position before he resigned to join mainstream politics in 2013.
Chakwera is said to the only pastor to have held that position for many years.
Since its inception in 1947 by a contingent of missionaries who build their first church in Chimbewa village in Ntcheu district, assemblies of God church has grown tremendously. It has a huge following in Malawi and beyond the African borders.
