BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Allegations have surfaced that opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader and former President Peter Munthalika and his personal boardguard Norman Chisale have been bribing pastors from CCAP Blantyre Synod with substantial amounts of money to endorse them for this year’s polls.

The allegations come barely hours after CCAP Blantyre Synod pastors invaded Mutharika’s Page House in the lakeshore District of Mangochi on Friday.

According to the groping leader Reverend Maulana, Page House visit was meant to pray for Mutharika for grace.

Surprisingly, the men of God endorsed Mutharika candidature for September 16 polls.

According to sources at Page House, Munthalika gave each pastor MK1 million, while Chisale gave each pastor MK500,000.

It is also allegedly that agreements between Munthalika and the pastors including several promises of appointments and benefits.

“Eight pastors are expected to be appointed as advisors to Munthalika if he wins, while 50 pastors will be appointed to various boards and companies.

“Some pastors will also be appointed to diplomatic positions in foreign embassies or accompany Munthalika on international trips,” adds the source.

The source explains further, “In return for these bribes, the pastors are expected to campaign against the current government and President Chakwera, endorse Munthalika in church gatherings and other CCAP forums, and remind Christians of the death of Chilima.

“From today onwards, they will be speaking and preaching against Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), speaking ill of the current regime and reminding people of Chilima death”.

He disclosed further, “The Blantyre SYNOD pastors are set for the war against MCP and Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera after receiving the money, and the promises made to the by the Munthalika and the DPP”.

There was no immediate reaction from Mutharika’s publicist Shadreck Namalomba on the allegations.
