Blantyre Synod denies MK2 billion mismanagement

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has moved to dispel allegations circulating among some members that it diverted funds meant for settling a reported MK2 billion obligation to purchase vehicles for its leadership.

Speaking to Maravi Post, the Synod’s Moderator Reverend Reynold Mangisa dismissed the claims as misleading and unfounded.

Mangisa said the Synod operates under a structured and transparent budgeting system, which is scrutinized by the Land and Property Committee and the General Administration Committee both of which include church members.

He clarified that the Synod recently acquired only two second-hand Nissan X-Trail vehicles (2013 and 2014 models) at a combined cost of MK22.5 million.

He added that the Toyota Fortuner currently used by the General Secretary was procured earlier to replace a similar vehicle that was written off in an accident several years ago.

Mangisa further explained that vehicle procurement for Synod moderators has long been part of the approved budget and could have been implemented earlier.

Addressing the issue of the reported K2 billion, Mangisa stressed that the Synod does not have a bank loan.

Instead, he said that in 2023 the Synod consolidated outstanding obligations related to taxes and pensions, which totaled approximately MK2 billion.

“Taxes and pensions are not loans but obligations. The Synod is making significant progress in settling these commitments,” said Mangisa.

The allegations come barely hours after CCAP Blantyre Synod pastors invaded Mutharika’s Page House in the lakeshore District of Mangochi on Friday.

According to the groping leader Reverend Maulana, Page House visit was meant to pray for Mutharika for grace.

Surprisingly, the men of God endorsed Mutharika candidature for September 16 polls.

According to sources at Page House, Munthalika gave each pastor MK1 million, while Chisale gave each pastor MK500,000.

It is also allegedly that agreements between Munthalika and the pastors including several promises of appointments and benefits.

“Eight pastors are expected to be appointed as advisors to Munthalika if he wins, while 50 pastors will be appointed to various boards and companies.

“Some pastors will also be appointed to diplomatic positions in foreign embassies or accompany Munthalika on international trips,” adds the source.

The source explains further, “In return for these bribes, the pastors are expected to campaign against the current government and President Chakwera, endorse Munthalika in church gatherings and other CCAP forums, and remind Christians of the death of Chilima.

“From today onwards, they will be speaking and preaching against Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), speaking ill of the current regime and reminding people of Chilima death”.

He disclosed further, “The Blantyre SYNOD pastors are set for the war against MCP and Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera after receiving the money, and the promises made to the by the Munthalika and the DPP”.

There was no immediate reaction from Mutharika’s publicist Shadreck Namalomba on the allegations.

Road to September 16: CCAP Blantyre Synod favours Mutharika

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The CCAP Blantyre Synod has endorsed former President Peter Mutharika, giving him benedictions ahead of the General Elections on September 16, 2025.

A delegation of 71 clerics from the synod visited Mutharika at his private residence, Page House, to offer prayers and benedictions for his well-being and guidance.

The event was seen as a gesture of goodwill and spiritual support for Mutharika’s potential candidacy in the upcoming elections.

DPP’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba said the prayer session aimed to invoke God’s blessings and guidance for Mutharika as he navigates the country’s complex political landscape.

In his sermon, Rev. Samson Nseu drew parallels between Mutharika’s political journey and the biblical story of Nehemiah, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and faith in the face of adversity.

He urged Mutharika to remain steadfast and draw strength from God, who remains the ultimate source of guidance and resilience.

The CCAP Blantyre Synod’s endorsement and benedictions for Mutharika have been interpreted by some as a significant boost to his potential candidacy.

The nation is yet to see which presidential candidate CCAP Livingstonia Synod will endorse.

Opportunist Blantyre Synod’s Billy Gama pushes two terms for Chakwera amid public discontent

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Opportunist Blantyre Synod General Secretary Billy Gama is pushing for President Lazarus Chakwera’s second term despite Malawians unhappy with his leadership.

Blantyre Synod SG Gama made the remarks on Saturday, March 26, 2022 when Chakwera attended graduation ceremony for 18 completed their studies on Master of Arts in Theology from University of Blantyre Synod.

Opportunist Billy Gama

Gama said as theologians are proud of President Chakwera because he has proved that reverends with theological backgrounds can become good presidents in a country.

Gama therefore expressed his desire to see President Chakwera ruling beyond the first five-year term.

“After you have done your second term, tell the world that there are also other theologians who can also be entrusted with the same position,” said Gama.

He added that the president can consider recommending one of the church leaders from the Blantyre Synod.

Chakwera however avoided the issue relating to his second term.

But the president talked about building a new Malawi and the role of universities in inculcating values of hard work, integrity and discipline in those who pass through their halls of learning.

Gama’s remarks come weeks after Second Vice President of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Harry Mkandawire said MCP already endorsed Chakwera as its candidate in the 2025 presidential elections.

Chakwera’s Tonse administration is facing public backlash for promises failures coupled with high cost of living two years in power.

Malawi’s CCAP Blantyre Synod in support of COVID-19 vaccine: “disregard myths and misinformation”

Malawi’s CCAP Blantyre Synod in support of COVID-19 vaccine: disregard “myths and misinformation”

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—As some church leaders are wooing their members to snub Covid-19 vaccine on suspicion that it is related to the biblical story of the ‘mark of the beast’ in the book of Revelation, Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod has appealed to the general public to disregard such “fake news and misinformation.”

In a statement issued on Thursday signed Reverend Master Jumbe, the Synod, through the Church and Society Department, says the propaganda that the vaccine is meant to eliminate Africans is baseless considering the fact that developing countries in Africa have been using vaccines from the West since time in memorial.

“The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod through the Church and Society Department is issuing this statement with an aim of appealing to the general public to guard against fake news and misinformation propaganda circulated on social media and other platforms regarding the side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine to be rolled out in this country.

“ According to the announcement made on Sunday, 31st January 2021 by the State President, His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera, government has secured ‘doses of AstraZeneca vaccine’ through the Covax7 facility to be rolled out come March this year. However, there is a widespread proliferation of myths and misconceptions against the said vaccine,” reads the statement.

It reads further: “Guided by our mandate and our calling to a holistic ministry, we are concerned that these misconceptions, misinformation, myths and fake news regarding the Covid-19 vaccine side effects, if not properly addressed will have the potential to create resistance from the general public thereby negatively affecting the battle against the pandemic.

“Additionally, the widespread fake news on social media has the potential of creating un- necessary tension, anxiety, fear and stress amongst Malawians. It is cheap propaganda that the vaccine is meant to kill all Africans. The fact is, Covid-19 will kill not only Africans but the world population where there is no vaccine. Malawi and Africa in general has received vaccines from the West in the past and continue to do so now. Vaccines for measles, Tuberculosis, polio, malaria which are administered to children under the ages of Five in this country are all made in the West.”

The Synod has, therefore, appealed to the faith and traditional leaders to desist from discouraging their subjects through unfounded rumours and stories.

They has also asked  political party leaders to avoid politicizing the Covid-19 pandemic in any way but to join hands with government in disseminating correct information to their followers.

“As we have said before the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic can be won only if all of us pull in the same direction. Pulling into opposite directions will only take all of us into early graves,” warned the Synod.
