PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-The South African Police Service on Monday opened a case of defeating the ends of justice against Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church following the death of three congregants in a reported stampede.

Police have established that the deceased were certified died at the church premises and the incident was not reported to the police.

“The case of defeating the ends of justice is opened at the Pretoria West SAPS following the stampede which happened on the 28th of December, at Bushiri’s church, Enlightened Christian Church Gathering (ECG),” Pretoria police spokeswoman Captain Augustinah Selepe told African News Agency (ANA).

“The charge is laid, based on the fact that police have established that the deceased were certified died at the church premises, the incident was not reported to the police, and the bodies were removed and taken to private mortuary – Red Ford Motuary.”

Selepe said the charges were the result of the ongoing SAPS inquest into the death of three “African females” and the injury of at least nine other congregants during what has been described as a “stampede to get into the church” by ECG.

On Saturday afternoon, Pretoria police, led by SAPS Tshwane West policing cluster commander Major-General Daniel Mthombeni visited the Pretoria Showgrounds – where the church is situated – shortly after learning about the alleged fatal stampede.

“According to them, [ECG] when the rain started [on Friday evening] the congregation started to push each other and a stampede occurred, unfortunately leading to three deaths and nine injuries,” said Selepe at the time.

She said the three victims had not yet been identified. The exact cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained.

The injured congregants were taken to Kalafong Hospital and Pretoria West Hospital.

Charles Mabaso of Tshwane emergency services said a distress call was received before 8pm on Friday, alerting the emergency services about 12 injured congregants.

We dispatched three ambulances, but upon arrival the ambulances found that there was one patient with moderate injuries. The patient was treated on [the] scene and then transported to Kalafong Hospital by Tshwane emergency services. That is the only one patient that we transported. We are not sure if other patients were transported privately by private people,” Mabaso told African News Agency.

Sad!!Infant dies as mum checks facebook

By Mtisunge Kagomo

Detectives are probing a mum of a baby who drowned in the bath over allegations she left the child unattended while she went on Facebook.

Kayla Lynton, 23, was arrested in Tel Aviv by police investigating neglect claims over the death of six-month-old Naomi in July.It is believed she initially said she had left the baby to go to the toilet.

But prosecutors are now investigating allegations that Kayla  married to British recruitment worker Ilan Lynton  may have been on the social media site when the tragedy happened.

By the time the mum called emergency workers, little Naomi could not be saved.

According to dailyactive.info Naomi’s father last night confirmed his wife’s mobile has been seized by police as part of their investigation.A source said: “Kayla is currently waiting for a court date.

She’s on a surety bond which means she must appear in court and at a police station when she’s required.

“Police are looking at whether she was on social media when she should have been caring for her daughter. She’s obviously devastated and now she’s having to deal with a potential criminal case as well.”

The grieving mum’s lawyer, Ofer Bartal, added: “Kayla does not know what to do with herself. After she saw Naomi was unconscious she tried to resuscitate her and she called the emergency workers and police.“We are now waiting for the police to decide if they will indict her and for what.”

Ilan  whose mother was born in Israel moved to Tel Aviv from his home in Shoreditch, East London, more than five years ago.

He and Kayla, who previously ran a child care business, married shortly after meeting in 2015 and had their first child Elizabeth, now two, less than 12 months later.Ilan was at work when he received a frantic phone call from Kayla shortly after 3pm.

She reportedly discovered Naomi had slipped below the water and was unconscious.

The baby was taken to the Ichilov Hospital where she died after a week in a coma. Her kidneys were donated to another girl.

Kayla was quizzed by officers from Tel Aviv’s Dizengoff police station who are now investigating claims of neglect.

They are said to be looking at a 10-minute window leading up to Naomi’s drowning during which Kayla is alleged to have accessed Facebook and Instagram.

The conditions of a 2,000-shekel (£420) surety bond reveals police are investigating several possible charges: “Causing severe injury to the helpless; neglect of a minor or a person unable to provide for own needs; injury through negligence; and negligent supervision of a child”.

Legal experts in Israel say the most severe potential offence if Kayla is indicted carries a possible nine-year sentence. Her lawyer Mr Bartal told us: “Police are investigating many directions.

I don’t know what they really think. They are asking many questions about many things but we don’t yet know what their findings are.

“It takes time between and investigation and the indictment.“Kayla was interrogated on the day it happened but released the same day.“She didn’t even spend one night in custody. Now she has been questioned one more time.

”Ilan and Kayla are understood to have separated since Naomi’s death. Our source added: “Ilan is devastated.

His whole life has been completely torn apart and he has struggled to come to terms with what happened.“He finds comfort in looking after his daughter, Elizabeth, but he’s obviously heartbroken.“How can you possibly deal with the loss of your little girl?”

South Africa Police probing probing Prophet Bushiri’s church over three women’s death

By Sibu M. Mokoena

CAPE TOWN-(MaraviPost)-The South African Police Service has opened investigation into the death of three congregants who were killed on Friday during a stampede at Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Cape Town.

Prophet Bushiri confirmed the accident through his personal attorney and ECG’s legal representative, Terence Baloyi, in an interview with South African media that the stampede indeed occurred.

Baloyi said the stampede happened when an unexpected severe thunderstorm hit Pretoria and caught off-guard the people who assembled at the Tshwane Events Centre show grounds on Friday night for a church service.

But the South African Police says it’s investigating the incident which has killed three women and left 9 other congregant seriously injured.

“An inquest has been opened for investigation. Anyone with a missing person believed to have attended the church service should visit the Pretoria West police station. The injured people were taken to Kalafong Hospital and Pretoria West Hospital. The three deceased were taken to a funeral parlour,” said Pretoria police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.

She said the three victims had not yet been identified and that the exact cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained.

“According to them, [ECG] when the rain started [on Friday evening] the congregation started to push each other and a stampede occurred, unfortunately leading to three deaths and nine injuries,”

Selepe also confirmed that investigators visited some of the victims of the stampede admitted to various hospitals on Sunday afternoon and that a police delegation led by SAPS Tshwane West policing cluster commander Maj-Gen Daniel Mthombeni also visited the Pretoria Showgrounds – where the church is situated and where the stampede happened – on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the South African police have called on the general public to report any person who is missing as a result of the stampede.

“We urge people who actually know that their family members might have attended the church service to go and visit Pretoria west police station so that they can be assisted.” said Captain Selepe.

ECG church members have been left reeling following the accident. Bushiri is one of the most followed prophets in Africa, drawing in hundreds of thousand followers.
