HARARE-(MaraviPost)-Oliver Mtukudzi, one of Zimbabwe’s most renowned musicians, has died aged 66 after a four-decade career.

He came to prominence in the 1970s as one of voices of the revolution fighting white-minority rule.

His lyrics often carried social messages about HIV/Aids and coded political commentary.

His 2001 song Wasakara, meaning “You Are Too Old”, was banned as it was seen as a reference to leader Robert Mugabe, who was ousted 16 years later aged 93.

The singer and guitarist mixed several different styles to create his own distinctive Afro-jazz sound, known to his fans as “Tuku Music”.

According to various local media reports, the self-taught guitarist passed away at a hospital in Harare, succumbing to diabetes complications.

A legend in the vibrant cross-genre music of Afro-jazz, Mtukudzi released 66 albums in a career that spanned 45 years.

He was rated by Forbes magazine as one of Africa’s 10 most bankable artists and some experts ranked him alongside Senegal’s Salif Keita and Youssou N’Dour for his innovation and influence.

His lyrics, delivered through rasping vocals, often carried social messages about HIV/AIDS and alcohol abuse and encouraging self-respect, sometimes invoking proverbs and wisdom from his mother tongue, Shona.

“Today we said goodbye to a true patriot. Oliver Mtukudzi, your voice has given us comfort during difficult times, and will remain with us for posterity,” President Emmerson Mnangagwa wrote on Twitter.

Of the late Jumani’s death and Kamuzu Family, MCP past brutal regime

By Falles Kamanga

The Malawi Congress Party  (MCP) will never change and blood of innocent people will continue to haunt it, with the recent death of Jumani Kamuzu Banda proving that MCP, Kamuzu Banda’s family and its operatives will come after everyone and kill them if they want to reveal the hidden truths about Kamuzu Banda.

Jumani Kamuzu Banda who has died mysteriously came to Malawi with claims that he was son to Kamuzu Banda.

He challenged everyone that he could prove that if given a chance to go for a DNA test and he was deported with the influence of Ken Kandodo who was then a serving cabinet minister .

One of Kamuzu Banda’s Aide who was head of Special Branch Martin Focus Gwede also died mysteriously after he had made a claim that he believed that Jumani was indeed Kamuzu Banda’s son, since he has seen him when he was young during his days with Kamuzu Banda abroad .

Gwede came out in support of a man claiming to be Banda’s son. He confirmed that Kamuzu Banda had three children, and that he believes that Jumani Johansson is the son of Banda

“This is the boy I saw in London referring to-Jumani Kamuzu Banda son to late Ngwazi Dr Hestings Kamuzu Banda, he is really son to Ngwazi.”

Gwede died in 2011 after he made such statements backing Jumani .

Jumani according to reports has died of food poisoning after he had challenged chiefs in Kasungu that he needed their help to prove his identity through DNA test .

Ken Kandodo through Zodiak Broadcasting Corporation said a drastic action would be taken if Jumani continued making such claims, weeks later he dies within hours of short illness.

No wonder the late Jumani’s wife has cried foul over the death for the son of the soil to tried so hard to reclaim his destiny.

The Kamuzu Family put spanners blocking the late Jumani despite his quest for DNA to justify his claims.

Despite Jumani’s fight, MCP leadership did nothing to help the young man, the party that knows exactly who Kamuzu was.

Should Malawians read too much on Jumani’s suspicious death that Kumuzu family and MCP still have blood hands that can not be trusted with leadership a head of May 21 polls? Time will guide!!!!

A Ghanaian undercover journalist has been shot dead while driving home, after a politician called for retribution against him.

Unidentified men on motorbikes shot Ahmed Hussein-Suale three times in the capital Accra, local media reports say.

He was a member of Tiger Eye Private Investigations and had investigated corruption in Ghana’s football leagues.

According to BBC, the undercover report on cash gifts led to a lifetime ban for the former head of Ghana’s Football Association.

BBC Africa Eye made a documentary about the scandal last year after gaining access to the investigation led by journalist Anas Aremayaw Anas, who runs Tiger Eye.

After the BBC broadcast the football documentary, Ghanaian MP Kennedy Agyapong circulated photos of Mr Hussein-Suale and called for retribution against him.

In turn, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists called on Mr Agyapong last summer to stop threatening journalists .

In a press release, Tiger Eye said they were “terribly devastated by the dastardly act”, but were “unshaken” in their pursuit of “nation-wreckers”.

Mr Hussein-Suale was shot twice in the chest and once in the neck in the suburb of Madina at about 23:00 (23:00 GMT) on Wednesday night, reports say.

His body has reportedly been taken to the Police Hospital Morgue and will be buried soon.

The investigative journalist co-operated with the BBC on several stories, including an investigation into human body parts sold for ritual magic in Malawi .

Violence against the press is rare in Ghana.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, only one other journalist has been killed in Ghana since 1992 .

The International Federation of Journalists says eight journalists were killed across all of Africa in 2017 .

MK120 million late President Bingu Wa Mutharika statue ready

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The MK120 million statue for late President Bingu wa Mutharika has been completed in South Africa, Maravi Post has learnt.

According to the local media, the statue will be erected at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

The Malawi Government hired renowned South African sculptor Jean Doyle to create the statue and she has told the local media that the work has been completed.

According to Doyle, she is waiting for government to tell her when to deliver the statue.

“The Malawian Government decided to postpone the erection of the monument. I still have the sculpture in my warehouse and I am awaiting instructions from them as to when I should deliver it. Presumably it will be sometime this or next month,” she explained.

Mutharika’s statue will be like the one constructed for late president Hastings Kamuzu Banda which was also sculpted by Doyle.

Government last year denied hiring anyone to carve a statue of late Mutharika but has now confirmed that it commissioned the creation of the statue though a decision on where the statue will be erected is yet to be made.

“Late Bingu’s statue is still in order…site for its erection is, yet, to be decided,” Minister of Information and Communication Technology who is also government spokesperson Henry Mussa said.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Congress Party has faulted the timing of the statue – which will cost over K120 million including travel expenses for government officials and family members – saying Malawians are suffering.
