Saudi Arabia prince denies Manchester United takeover bid

LONDON-(MaraviPost)-Saudi Arabia prince denies Manchester United takeover bid.

Rumours of his interest resurfaced over the weekend, although reports suggest the Glazers are not looking to sell.

According to BBC, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s media minister has denied reports linking him with a £3.8bn takeover of Manchester United. United’s American owners bought the club for £790m in May 2005.

“Reports claiming that HRH the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman intends on buying Manchester United are completely false,” said Turki al-Shabanah.

Prince Mohammed Bin Salman

“Manchester United held a meeting with PIF [ Public Investment Fund] Saudi to discuss a sponsorship opportunity. No deal has materialised.” Prince bin Salman, 33, was appointed Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in June 2017.

Saudi Arabia has been condemned for its human rights record and has faced scrutiny over the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at a Saudi embassy last year.

In October, Manchester United pulled out of an investment forum in Saudi Arabia amid the fallout from Khashoggi’s death.

The Old Trafford club posted record revenue of £208.6m for the second quarter of 2018 and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization of £104.3m.

However, reports suggest the Glazers’ takeover almost 14 years ago has come at a cost of more than £1billion to the club.

Main intrigues in France league

The decisive matches of the current season of the France league start soon, and we will find answers to all our questions. However, it is clear who gets gold medals. PSG did not leave a single chance to its competitors. Right fro the start the team of Thomas Tuchel joined of the race for the title confidently and managed to quickly secure a considerable handicap.

Against the failures of a number of competitors, by the middle of the championship it became clear that the Parisians would be able to defend the champion title without any problems. They really have everything for this:

  1. Great lineup. None of the competitors have such a selection of players in each of the lines. Thanks to this, Thomas Tuchel can make quick rotations and field only the strongest athletes.
  2. High level of individual skills. Only the main stars of our time play in PSG, thanks to this the French league is well known abroad.
  3. Tactical decisions of the coach. Thanks to Tuchel’s progressive approach, the team finally learned to beat not only the ordinary teams from the middle of the rating, but also giants like Liverpool and Manchester United.French tournament news on score 777

During the decisive matches, we can expect to see a very interesting fight to stay in the elite division, as well as winning places in the Champions League zone. It is to these matches that the main attention of the media and fans will be riveted to.

French tournament news on score 777

One of the main losers of this season in France is Monaco. The team clearly failed the second half of 2018 and even turned out to be in the relegation zone, although considering its potential it should fight for a place in European competition. On the website of sports statistics score 777, you can always find only relevant information about the team.

In winter, the management regained its senses and returned Jardim to the coaching position. The team also added a number of performers led by Fabregas, which had a positive impact on the club’s results. Given the density in the standings, we can safely assume that Monaco is quite capable of finishing in the middle, but in order for this to happen, professionals need to do their best every match.

They no longer have the right to make mistakes, because too much was lost in the first half of the season, when the Monegasques lost even against outright outsiders of the championship. You can always follow their final 10 rounds and their future prospects on the site of sports statistics score 777, where the data is updated in real time, and you get a great opportunity not to miss anything important in the world of football.

TNM honours sports journalists of 2018 Super League season

TNM honours sports journalists of 2018 Super League season

There was pomp and glitter at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre at the weekend when Malawi’s integrated mobile telecoms network and ICT service provider TNM Plc presented awards and prizes totalling K1.4 million to seven sports journalists who excelled in their coverage of the 2018 TNM Super League in a ceremony befitting international standards.

The seven have been selected after a rigorous scrutiny by an independent panel of judges comprising two journalism scholars from the Polytechnic, a constituent of University of Malawi, and an experienced editor. The judges—Ellard Manjawira, Mclan Kanyan’gwa and Centre for Solutions Journalism Executive Director Brian Ligomeka—have been sitting in Blantyre since between January and February 2019 to determine the winners.

Winning journalists are Times Group’s Williams Gondwa in the Best Commentary/Columnist category that assessed overall league analysis, Mibawa Television’s Peter Fote as Best Journalist in the Television Category, Capital Radio’s Mcfarlene Mbewe and Rainbow Television’s Snowden Kadzakumanja as Best Television Cameraman. Nation Publications Ltd dominated the awards by scooping three of the seven categories available namely Best Photojournalist in Bobby Kabango, Best Online Journalist in Pledge Jali and Best Print Journalist in Joy Ndovi.

Overall, the seven beat a field of 28 contestants who submitted a total of 111 individual entries, presenting one of the toughest choices for judges, according to Head of the three-member judging panel, Ellard Manjawira.

“This was one of the closest contests in media competitions we have come across in so far as judging sports journalists is concerned. We are satisfied with the high quality of submissions and we would like to encourage sports journalists and others that submit their work for similar competitions to have an eye for quality journalism and analysis over quantity,” said Manjawira, who is the Head of Journalism and Media Studies at the Polytechnic.

Presenting the awards, TNM Chief Officer (Sales & Marketing) Dan Makata paid tribute to the critical role of sports journalism in providing critical review of the TNM Super League, which helps to shape the football industry agenda in Malawi and offers valuable feedback for decision makers in sports.

“As a sponsor, TNM believes that an informed audience is valuable to the TNM Super League’s growth and overall development of football in the country. The media are the mirror that give a reflection of what is happening in the league for critical decision-making and action by us as sponsor, fans, club owners and administrators, and football authorities such as FAM, SULOM and FIFA,” he said.

Makata said TNM Plc supports the revision in the format of the media awards as it has been designed to promote high quality work amongst sports journalists, which in turn will reflect in the quality of information passed for decision making aimed at developing the game.

It is the first time that the media competition component of the TNM Super League has run as a separate event and judged by an independent panel, a sharp departure from the tradition when it was combined with club and player awards.

TNM Plc entrusted the running of the media awards component to their advertising and PR agency, FD Communications Ltd who coordinated work of the independent judging panel.

“Under the previous format, categories carried supporting winners or runners-up, which made it difficult to distinguish truly outstanding work deserving of reward and recognition. The new format emphasizes on quality sports journalism and analysis as opposed to quantity,” said Manjawira. Every category winner receives K200,000 cash, a trophy, certificate and TNM branded goodies.

Malawi’s Flames move from 130 to 129 on Fifa rankings ruder

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi national football team has moved one step up on the latest Fifa rankings released Friday.

The rankings indicate that the Flames have neither gained nor lost any point during the period under review and only moved from 130 in the previous rankings to 129.

The figures show that Malawi have maintained 1,115 points with an upward movement of one step.

The Flames have not been active since November last year when they lost 1-2 to Comoros in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Moroni.

The loss came on the back of a barren draw against Cameroon in the same competition at Kamuzu Stadium.

Malawi will play their last qualifier against Morocco at the soccer mecca in March. The match will be of no significance to the Flames as they are already out of contention for a place at the Egypt finals.

Flames Coach Ronny van Geneugden and his assistant Peter Mponda did not pick our calls to comment on the development.

The rankings rate Belgium as the world’s top footballing nation, with France and Brazil coming second and third, respectively.

Senegal (24) is Africa’s top team while Tunisia (28) and Morocco (43) are second and third. Nigeria (46) are fourth while Democratic Republic of Congo complete Africa’s top five.

The list of the continent’s top ten teams is dominated by West and North African teams with none from southern Africa.

South Africa (74) remains Cosafa’s best team, followed by Zambia (82). The Flames are ranked eighth in the southern Africa region.
