Chakwera’s initiative lauded for rescuing varsity needy students

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has commended President Lazarus Chakwera, for his continued support to the under-privileged university students through his Presidential Charity Initiative.

MUBAS Deputy Vice Chancellor Associate Professor Nancy Chitera made the remarks on Monday during the second MUBAS graduation ceremony in Blantyre. In her remarks, Chitera hailed the Malawi leader for coming up with the initiative saying this academic year alone, over 4,500 under-privileged students are expected to benefit.

The associate professor also hailed President Chakwera for dedicating a special ministry to oversee higher education saying the move will help improve the standards of higher education in the country.

Chitera explained that her institution is keen to continue producing forward thinking and solutions oriented graduates to help the country realize Vision Malawi 2063.

Chairperson of MUBAS Council Professor George Yobe Kanyama Phiri called on the employers to engage the newly graduating students because they are ready to perform to the required standards.

“If a product is from MUBAS, it must be good. They are ready to be employed. Try them you will never get disappointed, ” he said.

In his speech, President Chakwera advised the student to prioritize at production and not consumption.

“My expectation is that the time you have spent at this university has taught you that this religion of consumption is not your path. You need to understand that my vision as president is for you to take a different path, a path on which you produce more than you consume, and if you want or choose to follow me on that journey, you must show it by engaging in behaviours that orient your entire life towards production.

“These behaviours include spending time researching what areas of production are most lucrative and what markets are available in that area,” he added.
