Chancellor College students President has barred the Civil Society Platform for Constructive Dialogue (CS-PCD), a group of civil society organizations chaired by Maxell Matewere to conduct a dialogue on UNIMA fee hike controversy saying they don’t have trust in the grouping.Addressing members of the press earlier this month, Matewere said that his organization is ready to organize a dialogue between the two parties while saying that the matter was politicized by both government and opposition parties.
“We know that some politicians have camped in Zomba organizing the students to protest,” Matewere is quoted earlier before the demonstration.
The grouping also argued that University of Malawi is already ranked lowest in University fees in Africa and that there is need to raise the standards of the same.
He further said that “the majority of the students who are worried about the fees hike in public universities are those who come from private secondary schools like Kamuzu Academy where they used to pay about K1.2 million per term.”
After the closure of the school, Matewere insisted that his group will continue with its plans of holding a dialogue.
However, the Chancellor College students through their Union President James Sylvester Ayuba rubbished the group.
“This organization has already shown its side especially when we look at its first reaction. Secondly we don’t know who fund the group and the platform it is using,” said Ayuba.
“On top of that we knew about this group from the media. In short, there are many things that disqualify this organization,” he disclosed.
According to him, the students wanted dialogue from the first time this issue started but the University council did not show interest. He said the students still want dialogue.

University of malawi has the poorest , dated, conjested academic and accommodationfacilities. The cariculum ( sorry I can’tspell, graduatedfrom bunda) is so outdated on all programs and since science, technology, engineering, design, research, economics are what drive development .malawi is underdeveloped as atributed to poor standards of education especially at university. Imagine a graduate who thinks uni of malawi has lowest ranked fees without thinking that that it’salso has the lowest standard of education. The university produced graduates who are trying to convince students that a fees hike is better for the student..only UNIMAginable graduate can be so deluded to think that student will be convinced. Even if all unima students were sons of millionaires who who attended expensive private high school education in UKand USA that still ddoesn’texplain why fees have to hiked. So students wouldnt have demonstrating or demonstrated against fee hikes But they are only doing so because politicians are encouraging them..well then those politicianso must the more powerful thangovt bbecausegovt is trying to get them back to class infact, back to crass
