KARONGA (Maravi Post)—Northern region based super league rookies Karonga United FC has attributed their barren spell in front of goal due to lack of self-confidence and maturity among its players. The crocodiles of Karonga have only found the net once in their 8 outings so far in the league, the lowest in Malawi’s four major league divisions.
Speaking to Malawi news agency in an interview the rookies tactician Kondwani Mwalweni, said lack of enough preparation on matches has hindered coordination among players hence they lack belief in front of goal.
“It’s my responsibility as a coach to bring some self-confidence and belief knowing that it’s vital when playing football and I’m doing that through extra training and shooting practices,” he said.
He added with the extra training that was organized by him for the boys, he will mainly be working on the midfield and strike force as they are key areas in the field.
He said they are creating a lot of chances but finishing is the problem.
However, the coach was confident that his players have what it takes to survive in the league.
According to a soccer pundit David Katete, Karonga United have good players and the fans should be patient, good results are around the corner for these young boys.
“I know people in Karonga are not patient enough but with this young team they have to be. It’s only a matter of time before the players click together and when they do they will shock big teams,” he said.
Karonga United are bottom of the 16 member league with only 3 points from their eight matches played so far.
This Sunday the rookies will welcome Super league champions Nyasa Big Bullets at Mzuzu stadium.
