LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Jessie Kabwila, has commended the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) for its commitment to aligning with President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s vision of transforming Malawi into a productive and commercially viable agrarian economy.
She made the remarks on Thursday during the 8th LUANAR Congregation held at the University’s Bunda Campus in Lilongwe.
Dr. Kabwila emphasized that the government of President Chakwera is dedicated to enhancing human capital development across the country.
She assured the academic community that under President Chakwera’s administration, institutions of higher learning such as LUANAR would continue operating without the risk of closure, reflecting a broader commitment to educational stability and progress.
The Minister further reiterated the government’s continued support for students through the provision of loans aimed at assisting those in need.
She noted that the number of beneficiaries of student loans has more than trebled since 2021, with over 31,000 students currently receiving support.
Dr. Kabwila also praised LUANAR for its strong leadership in both academic excellence and innovation, recognizing the institution’s vital contributions to Malawi’s overall national development.
She highlighted LUANAR as a pillar in the country’s efforts to advance agricultural productivity, research, and economic transformation.
Speaking at the same event, LUANAR Vice Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kaunda, passionately underscored the importance of innovation and transformation in the institution’s recent achievements.
Professor Kaunda encouraged the graduating students to utilize their acquired knowledge to bring about tangible change within their communities.
He urged the graduates to ensure their skills are in harmony with Malawi’s development agenda, thereby contributing meaningfully to the nation’s sustained progress.
The 8th LUANAR Congregation served as a platform not only to celebrate academic accomplishments but also to reaffirm the university’s integral role in the country’s socio-economic transformation.
