MSG graduates urged to drive development through innovation

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Jessie Kabwila, has challenged the Malawi School of Government (MSG) graduates to harness their skills and knowledge to contribute to the country’s development agenda.

Speaking at the second MSG congregation, where 439 students graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Kabwila emphasized the importance of innovation and progressive thinking.

The minister encouraged the graduates to utilize their education to drive positive change, emphasizing that their qualifications are not just careers but tools for designing solutions.

She urged them to embody the values of truth, service, and innovation, becoming valued human capital for Malawi’s development in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.

On her part,Director General of MSG, Professor Asiyati Lorraine Chiweza, stated that MSG is committed to enhancing service delivery through a hybrid higher education system driven by innovation and research, among other strategies.

She highlighted that, under the directive of President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, MSG has developed numerous programs to improve operational efficiency.

The graduation ceremony was held under the theme ‘Celebrating Professionalism and Excellence, Shaping Ethical Leaders for a Better Malawi’.

Chakwera earns praise for all inclusive, goal-driven cabinet

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Following his recent reconfiguration of his cabinet on Wednesday evening, President Lazarus Chakwera has been praised by a wider ranger of society for considering a national, political and gender balance on top of improving efficency in as far as service delivery is concerned.

These are some of the most critical aspects any Malawi leader considers when making such senior appoitnments.

The new cabinet has roped in Mwanza West Parliamentarian, Joyce Chitsulo, as Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture.

Another new entrant into Chakwera’s cabinet is Member of Parliament for Mangochi North, Benedicto Chambo. He comes in as Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

Another woman among the 12 in the 30-member cabinet is former Zomba Central Constituency legislator, Patricia Kainga Nangozo.

From the Peoples Party, President Chakwera has appointed parliamentarian for Nkhatabay South East, Noah Chimpeni.

As way of improving efficiency in the Education sector, the President has split the Ministry of Education into two while maintain women leaders in the portfolio.

Over the past couple of years, the President has trusted the ministy in the hands of women in both offices of minister and deputy.

The split sees Madalitso Wirima maintained as Minister, this time responsible for Basic and Secondary Education while renowned educationist, Jessie Kabwila, has been given the Ministry of Higher Education.

“First and foremost the President has made sure that he keeps his cabinet small. But within that size of cabinet he has struck good regional, tribal and political balance.

MCP elective convention: Dr. Jessie Kabwila back into Tambala family

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Outspoken Dr. Jessie Kabwila is back in Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leadership after convincingly beating Ezekiel Ching’oma as Publicity Secretary in the ongoing party convention at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

Dr. Kabwila’s election has surprised many as she did not publicly announce her return to the party after her expulsion in 2018.

According to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), unofficial results also showed that Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara has won the post of MCP First Vice President while Local Government Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda is now Secretary General.

Director of Women, Jean Sendeza is now Director of Women and Director of Youth has gone to Baba Steve Malondela.

The director of Legal Affairs is now Jivason George Kadzipatike while the Director of Public Relations has gone to Sam Kawale who is also Agriculture Minister.

MCP Treasure General is now John Paul while Director of Economic Affairs goes to Henry Mumba. Elias Chakwera is now the Director of Elections while Organising Secretary goes to Deus Gumba Banda.

Out of 18 positions, MEC has counted votes for 11 positions.

According to MEC Returning Officer, Christopher Botha, the unofficial results are a reflection of what is on the electoral commission’s dashboard and has assured members that official results will be released after vote counting has been completed.

The remaining position will be contested on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

“Digital skills, key to industrialization towards Malawi 2063”-SPC Zamba

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba, said Malawi is striving to become an industrialized upper-middle-income country and that Digitalization has to be identified as a key driver of this growth, accelerating the President’s Delivery Agenda of job creation, wealth creation, and food security.

Zamba was speaking during the launch of the digital skills training program at Malawi School of Government (MSG)-Kanengo campus in the capital Lilongwe.

“The success of the digital transformation of Malawi requires the contributions of every individual and she urged participants to fully commit to the program to ensure a meaningful and comprehensive digital transformation for the country.

“This digital skills training program is a significant step towards achieving Malawi’s digital transformation goals and aligning with the government’s strategic plans,” she added.

Zamba observes that this inclusive program brings together participants from different levels of service, and will run for six months to guarantee a thorough and sustainable digital culture transformation.

In his remarks, Principal Secretary for the Department of e-Government in the Ministry of Information Francis Bisika commended the Secretary to the President and Cabinet for leading the way in making sure that Malawi realise the component of digital industrialization as a catalyst for development.

Echoing on the same, MSG Kanengo campus Acting Director, Dr. Jessie Kabwila said digitalization is indeed a key component of industrialisation and human capital development in Malawi’s long-term vision, the Malawi 2063.

“To support this initiative, the Government of Malawi, in partnership with The Tony Blair Institute and the United Nations Development Program, has launched a pilot digital skills training program which is taking place at the Malawi School of Government and will run from mid-April to mid-September and will have three levels of training.

“Level 1 which comprises Junior to Middle-Level Officers, will have 100 participants. This level is aimed at junior to mid-level civil servants responsible for delivering government projects and services that are prioritised for government digitisation and/or tech transformation,” discloses Kabwila.

She added, “Level 2 is for Technical Leads and will have 50 participants and is aimed at Digital Transformation Officers, Principal Officers, Chief Officers, ICT officers and other technical leads responsible for the digital agenda of the country.

“The third level comprises Senior Level Management and will have 30 participants and is aimed at Principal Secretaries, Directors General, Chief Directors, and other senior leaders and decision makers in government”.

Through this initiative, the government, along with its partners, is contributing to building a strong digital ecosystem that will support Malawi’s growth and development
