LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-One of Malawi’s renowned agricultural experts, Felix Jumbe, has called on farmers across the country to begin preparations early for the 2025/2026 farming season.
Jumbe emphasized that timely preparation is critical for increasing agricultural productivity.
Speaking to MBC Digital, Jumbe noted that when farmers plan ahead, they are better positioned to assess their farming needs comprehensively.
He explained that early planning allows farmers to prepare their land while the soil is still soft and manageable.
In addition, it gives them adequate time to purchase essential farming inputs such as fertilizer and seed.
Jumbe stressed that being ready before the rains begin enables farmers to plant in good time, ensuring they make the most of the rainy season.
He added that this is especially important during seasons of erratic rainfall patterns, when missing the early rains can have a significant impact on crop yields.
The advice from Jumbe comes as part of broader efforts to improve food security and economic resilience in Malawi through improved farming practices.
His remarks serve as a timely reminder for both smallholder and commercial farmers to take proactive steps toward a successful and productive farming year.
