Jealousy Rumphi ex-inmate Stephano Banda arrested for hacking to death wife’s lover

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police Service (MPS) in Rumphi is keeping in custody a 38-year-old man for allegedly stabbing to death Fumbanani Kaonga, 40 on suspicion that he had an affair with his wife.

Rumphi police station spokesperson Noel Kamchenga has identified the suspect as Stephano Banda who committed the crime on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Pachichi, around the Chinyolo area.

The publicist Kamchenga told The Maravi Post that in 2020, the suspect Banda was arrested and remanded to Karonga prison for being found in possession of Pangolin and left behind a wife and a Child.

“Later on, the wife got employed at a Chinese construction company (Chicco) as a cleaner to support herself and while working there it is alleged that she fell in love with Kaonga.

“However in April 2023, the suspect was released from prison and came back to Rumphi only to find that his wife and child left their home and were renting a room at Pachichi where he found them with Kaonga yesterday,” said Police Publicist.

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon on murder charges.

Banda hails from Napoli village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Nkhulambe in Phalombe.
