LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday morning, April 18, 2024, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Lovemore Paul Chikopa (SC) as Deputy Chief Justice of Malawi.
This follows his appointment to occupy the newly established office in the Malawi Constitution.
Chakwera described the event as historic as Justice Chikopa has become the first person to hold the position which was newly established in the constitution.
Speaking during the Swearing-in ceremony at Kamuzu Palace, President Chakwera said Justice Chikopa has all the attributes deserving the position with his career as jurist, expertise, integrity, and patriotism, appealing all Malawians to support him.
“Today is a great day because we see the rise of the Lord Justice Lovemore Paul Chikopa to the office of Deputy Chief Justice, becoming the first person in the history of Malawi to hold this position, newly established in the Constitution Amendment Bill, that I signed into law three years ago” said President Chakwera.
The President has since commended the Chief Justice, Rezine Mzikamanda, and the entire Judiciary for completing the functional review, resulting in Chikopa’s appointment.
